Big Event, Big Days, Big Goals and unforgettable experience…

Olia amigos!

As you may already heard I had a super exciting, thrilling and unforgettable event in Croatia, Zadar. It was 41st Youth world championship which in my eyes was the best event I had ever taken place into. Spectacular views just beyond Croatia border and big hopes led me to the breath taking event on the shore of the Adriatic Sea.

Everything started at June 5th. After packing a huge load of suitcases we went on road to the land of warm waters and weather. The trip lasted about 30 “relaxing” hours, but I must say that it was worth it. With a help of 2 different GPS’s on June 6th we finally found Sailing Club Uskok. Waving flags, huge load of new equipment and fence all over the club clearly stated that we were in the right place.
From the first moment we arrived I clearly knew that something remarkable was still to come.

Finally, the day of free and brand new gear has came and I was really excited to get one as it was my first new RS:X equipment so far. Just after the registration ceremony I was on my way to RS:X area to rip the covers of new toys such as booms, extensions, board etc. Not a lot of time passed until we were on the water, trying to make these new things fly…

In comparison with weather conditions in Lithuania it was like pumping in Sauna. Even though the water was chilling the sun was crazy.

I guess every single day brought more and more warmness and friendship among the sailors. Everyone was getting known of each other and becoming more friendly, smiling and inviting which made the ISAF even more outstanding place to be. The most visited sailors places would probably be the shadows of the trees and the ice-cream stall as these ones were the only ones to hide from burning fewer. Also, if you didn’t have a bottle of cool water you were kaput.

Another superior thing, not to count the races, was the sailing clinic just after the supper and just before the races. It really helped a lot to put things in the right place and achieve even better results in tactics, wind shifts, currents, rigging diversities and of course the overall results. Specially thanks to Hugh Styles!

There were so many dazzling things that I could even write a series of books about ISAF but this time I will stay only on few last days, closing ceremony and after-party.

The more days passed the more nostalgic it felt that the ISAF was coming to the end. In the last few days the wind popped up a little and we had some great races (even though my results weren’t so great) in planning conditions. Thus, we were extremely happy and excited of leaving the dagger-boards safely inside the board.

All sailors were delivered to the closing ceremony by two ships. The view just beyond the handrails was unique… Those mountains and broad waters were the things to take everyone’s breath away.
The ceremony in it self wasn’t boring. It was nice to see so many different people gathered in one place. Congratulations to all winners who showed real world-class in this event and took the top places!

And then came the After-party. I guess this part of the whole ISAF youth world championship was one of the best as everyone were familiar to each other and all we had to do was just to celebrate the last hours of unforgettable days and event. Every single sailor no matter from where he/she came was extremely friendly and inviting, there was no room for bad mood or disagreements. Those last moments were dedicated for total discharge. Everything went smoothly and nice. There weren't any negative things at all in Croatia. Every little matter was splendid. It was just too sad to leave the place and whole amigos behind and go home.

All things counted, I had the most marvelous event in my whole life and I will never ever ever never forget 41st ISAF youth World Championship! Big thanks to everyone!

Specially thanks to Mexican, Ukraine and Russian Teams and for all windsurfers! See you soon! Gonna miss you! :)
