Kiel, Germany

A spot of Kiel which I have been windsurfing at with RS:X can be easily found with a help of GPS or heading to the North of Schilksee town in Germany, Kiel.
The spot can be reached with no special trucks, ships or planes as there are roads which stretch nearby leaving areas.

This spot is great of it's different conditions of chop. It cannot be compared to Kauno or Kursiu Marios as Kiel connects with Baltic sea and creates a strange windsurfing conditions. There are no waves, but the chop is a real mess and it really tests the whole technique you have. Usually, when the wind starts to show life signs the chop becomes like a tiny wave which do not break and comes in a really confusing way. Then, if you count the enormous ferry boats which also give impact to the chop you will get non-lake conditions. In my opinion that is a great thing because when you come back to the Lithuania's spots you feel like you are sailing on the flat water even if there is a windy day.

The water is quite clear and the surroundings are great. The wind is often stable, constant and not gusting in a harsh way.

As far as accommodation is concerned you have 2 choices to choose from whether to live in apartments which can be found at the Schilksee yacht club or to live in your sweet and homelike camper at the campsite near upper leaving area. Doesn't matter whether you are going to stay at the campsite or to live in apartments with a breath-taking view to the sea you will have a place to take a shower, wash your dishes and have a toilet.

All in all, I would really recommend this spot to any kind or grade windsurfer. There is a lot to see on the water and on the shore. The Yacht club is really nice and worth visiting. If you go a little bit upward from the upper spot you will see a great number of chilling spots. Just on the sandy beaches lie cafes with comfortable armchairs to the view to Baltic sea. Another great thing is that you can get sight of ships and boats which are extremely beautiful, unusual and old school such as:

So, take a few day off, take your gear, a little bit of money and head to the Kiel!
Best regards, Arnas.
